Snowmobiling with a local guide in Paistunturi Wilderness area (Utsjoki)
Are you looking for a truly unique snowmobile experience? Paistunturi wilderness area does not have any official snowmobile tracks, but the locals know the routes to use.
Paistunturi wilderness area is a 1500 square kilometer large wilderness area in Utsjoki. Stunning sceneries after another are exposed, as the gentle rolling fells are crossed by deep carved river valleys. From the highest fell tops, you get a great view over the entire wilderness area. Paistunturi area does not have any marked snowmobile tracks, so a local guide with long experience of nature conditions is mandatory when entering this area.
This snowmobiling excursion is about 2 hours. It includes pick-up max 5km from Utsjoki village if needed, extra winter clothes, helmets and the license to enter the wilderness area with a motorized vehicle. The guide will instruct you thoroughly how to use the snowmobile before we start, and lead your way in the wilderness, taking care of your safety all the time. For safety reasons, we take maximum 4 guests at a time, on shared snowmobiles, so the guide has vision contact to all guests throughout the tour. More guests can join as passengers on a sled pulled by guide´s snowmobile.
Guests need to have a valid driver´s license to be allowed to drive a snowmobile and minimum age is 18.
You can take part on this snowmobiling tour even if you have no prior experience of driving a snowmobile. We recommend driving a shared snowmobile, so you can take turns in driving, or then you can come as an extra passenger, sitting on a sled, pulled by the guide´s snowmobile.
If you want to experience the wilderness area without driving a snowmobile, you can also join our snow safari to the wilderness area, cultural landscape tours with snowshoes or ice-fishing program.
