Sauna experiences in Utsjoki
Most cottages usually have a sauna you can use during your stay in Utsjoki. But if you want a bit different kind of sauna experience in a wood-heated sauna, you can also look into saunas presented on this site. These saunas are available year-round, but swimming in natural waters is possible only during Summer and Autumn.
Karigasniemi Beach Sauna
Karigasniemi village has a very active non-profit organization, Karigasniemen Kyläyhdistys (Karigasniemi Village Association), that also runs the village house Sáivu and rental beach sauna. This sauna is for about max 5 guests (or even 7, in case you get along very well with your sauna friends). You can request the sauna via email at saivu.kylatalo@gmail.com. While enjoying the löyly and swim at this sauna, you also support the local community association! Price for the sauna is 20 €/hour.
Karigasniemi village is located about 1 hour drive from Utsjoki, on the most beautiful, scenic road in Finland. So not a bad idea to visit both villages and enjoy the scenery between the drive! There is no bus connection between the villages, but you can drive your-self or request for a transfer.
Beach barrel sauna near Utsjoki village
Right next to the Utsjoki village, is the lake Nisojávri and a rental barrel sauna by the beach. You can rent the sauna for your private use, but the beach by the sauna is public. If you are already familiar with wood-heated saunas, you can rent the sauna for your own, private use, directly from Utsjoki swimming hall (email to uimahalli@utsjoki.fi).
If you are not familiar with a sauna or how to heat an outdoor sauna with firewood, then it is better to reserve a guided sauna experience. The guide will take care of reservations, heating the sauna, transfers, safety on the beach and instructing how to use the sauna.
Utsjoki swimming hall
Did you know that in Utsjoki, you can visit the Northernmost swimming hall of the EU? This swimming hall has been serving locals and travelers for decades. For locals, it is an important place for physical activity and teaching children to swim, as natural waters in Utsjoki area are quite cold most of the year. For travelers and especially hikers and campers, the swimming hall is the perfect place to enjoy a nice, warm shower and relax in the big saunas.
