Scenic half-day hike to the Arctic Highlands of Utsjoki

4 hours

Moderate

Explore the scenic beauty of the Arctic Highlands of Utsjoki on a guided half-day hike.

Paistunturi and Kaldoaivi Wilderness areas in Utsjoki are the largest  wilderness areas in Finland. They are protected nature reserves, with  almost no human-built roads or structures, but here the indigenous  Sàmi people still actively practice their traditional livelihoods of  reindeer herding, hunting and fishing. An experienced local guide is  a must-have when exploring outside marked trails, to take care of  your safety and to give a deeper understanding of the local culture,  geology and nature. In Utsjoki wilderness, it is more likely to meet  reindeer and other wildlife than any people. If you want to  experience the famous mosquitoes of Lapland in early July, we can  take you to wetland areas to find them. Otherwise we select routes  on the tundra where we won´t be disturbed by hungry insects.

We have planned day hikes for all types of guests, and this program is an intermediate scenic hike heading up to the fells. We hike about 5-10 km, which takes usually around 5-8 hours, depending on guests'  pace.

Utsjoki is a unique destination with the arctic highlands and river  valleys, and gorgeous colors of the silent nature. Paistunturi and  Kaldoaivi wilderness areas have endless trails and breathtakingly  beautiful landscapes to explore!
