Ice fishing experience on an Arctic lake
Join us on a snowmobile-sleigh ride to a fell lake and learn the art of ice fishing. Ice-fishing is fun and easy with a good, local guide!
Join us on a snowmobile-sleigh ride to an arctic lake on the fells and learn the art of ice fishing. Pick-up max 5 km from Utsjoki village, warm clothes and helmets are included in the tour. We choose the lake we fish from depending on the condition of the fish stock. The guide will help to drill a hole in the ice and set a fishing rod ready for you, and teach you how to catch arctic char and brown trout through the thick layer of ice. If you are lucky and get a catch, we can cook the fish for you on open fire. We serve a warm wilderness lunch at the lake. Sitting on reindeer hides, fishing quietly, and admiring the silence and beauty of the wilderness around us is a relaxing experience.
This ice-fishing program is about 2 hours and suitable for people with no prior experience of fishing or nature activities.
For true fishing enthusiasts, we can arrange longer fishing programs from half-day to multiday fishing trips (possible catch also pike, whitefish and perch). For families with small children, we can arrange family fishing programs. You can request these special fishing tours via email at arctic@travelutsjoki.com.
Ice-fishing trips are available from December to May, depending on snow and ice conditions.
Please take into account that we eat the fish we catch. For us, fishing is not only about enjoyment, but providing food. We only release the fish we catch if this is necessary for balance of the fish stock.
If you want to experience the arctic highlands and nature without fishing, we have a snow safari to the wilderness area with snowmobile and sleigh, and cultural landscape tours with snowshoes.
