Snow Safari to Paistunturi wilderness area

Paistunturi is a large wilderness area with stunning sceneries of  taiga and tundra in Northernmost Finnish Lapland, in Utsjoki.

This  area is one of the world´s oldest mountain regions. With 3 billion  years of erosion and ground movements,  the sharp mountains have  turned into gentle rolling fells, crossed by deep carved river valleys  and canyons. From the highest fell tops, you get a great view over  the entire 1500 km2 large wilderness area, as far as to the fells in Norway.

The  indigenous Sámi people still practice their traditional livelihoods of  reindeer herding, hunting and fishing in this region.

On our snow  safari to Paistunturi wilderness area, you get to travel in a sled  pulled by a local guide´s snowmobile. On this tour, you get to  see the spectacular nature of the region (birds, wildlife, snow formations), but also learn why the "untouched" wilderness is an important cultural landscape of the Sámi: the local culture, such as reindeer husbandry, is rooted in nature.

We have planned a 2-hour and 4 hour snow safari to Paistunturi  wilderness area. With this online booking, you can book your seat for the 2-hour tour. Tour includes pick-up max 8 km from Utsjoki village, extra winter gear and helmets, snowmobile-sleigh ride to Paistunturi wilderness area and hot  drinks and small snacks.

(The longer Snow Safari is about 4 hours, where we drive deeper into the wilderness area. The 4-hour tour includes a wilderness lunch  at a wilderness hut. You can reserve the longer snow safari via email at arctic@travelutsjoki.com.)
