Birds, whales and wildlife by boat
In spring, tens of thousands of arctic birds and several whale species migrate to the Varanger fjord for good nesting and feeding environment. Join our guided program from Utsjoki to experience this special arctic sea wildlife!
We pick you up from Utsjoki or Nuorgam villages around 10.30, and drive you to a harbor on the coast of the Arctic Sea, to Varanger Fjord (driving time about 2 hours). You are provided with a thermal floating suit, goggles, gloves and life vests, and then we sail out with experienced captains to the fjord, to explore the wildlife around.
We drive and drift with the boat for 2-3 hours, and depending on the season and weather, we might reach Hornoya bird island.
After we return to the harbor, we can spend some free time, exploring the coastal villages. We drive you back to your accommodation in Utsjoki/Nuorgam after the day by the fjord. We can stop at Norwegian or Finnish supermarket on the way back.
Please note that this tour is available on request in the online booking. You can also send us email to inquire any availability between March 15th and July 1st (email: arctic@travelutsjoki.com).
For safety reasons, passengers on boat have to be minimum 120 cm tall. If you are traveling with family and smaller children, contact us via email and we can tailor a tour for your family´s needs! This wildlife program can also be modified for guests with mobility impairment as a minivan tour on land.
